Gariyan Silat
Gariyan Silat originated in the jungles of north Malaysia in the 19th Century (modern day Perlis) when the Gariyan family branched from the larger Silat Patani. The goal of Gariyan Silat became distilling simple, practical and cunning self-defence techniques from its source, and removing the over-mystification of Pencak Silat that had occurred in the region. To this day, our style is methodical in remaining true to the same standards.
The Gariyan System covers many aspects of close quarters combat, including striking, grappling, joint and nerve manipulation, fighting with weapons or against weapons, multiple attackers, and de-escalation/escape techniques. Instructor Josh Grace draws not only from his lifelong training in Gariyan Silat, but from experience in both private security and military fields.
The system is designed from the ground up to deal with attackers who are larger, stronger, or outnumber you.
